We are pleased to introduce our new service, Decontamination and Biohazard. Atlas’s acquisition of the Tudor Group earlier this year made this expansion possible, opening new opportunities and allowing us to introduce this crucial service.
Thanks to the support from Ultima, a Specialist Biohazard and Decontamination cleaning training business owned by Atlas, which provided us with staff training, we have successfully entered this new market for the company. It runs alongside our soft and hard FM services and window cleaning.
Here, we discuss this new service offering and its vital role in cleaning up after some of the most challenging cleaning situations.
Ensuring safe and clean environments
Not for the faint-hearted, our new service involves cleaning up bodily fluids such as blood, vomit, urine, and faeces. Safe removal of bodily fluids requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure the safety of future occupants of the cleaned spaces, as pathogens may be present. If the affected area is improperly cleaned, it could lead to people getting infections or even diseases.
Colin Fox, our Operations Director at the Tudor Group, explains some of the necessary safety measures for the team when carrying this type of clean:
“Anything that involves bodily fluid requires rigorous cleaning procedures. Our team is equipped with full personal protective equipment (PPE) to carry out their duties. The team have undergone training on the strict procedures for handling biohazards and toxic substances and the safe application and removal of PPE. We understand the health risks associated with this type of cleaning and prioritise the safety of our team and the environments we serve.”
Round-the-clock service
Our new service covers many different types of situations. Some of these include:
- Working with the police, cleaning custody cells and vehicles
- The safe collection and removal of used sharps and hypodermics
- Suicide, murder scene, and trauma clean-up
We’re currently going through a tendering process with a local police force. Carrying out a contract of this type involves various scenarios, such as cleaning after a crime scene, cell cleaning, and road traffic incidents. A reactive approach is a must, and the team must be on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to carry out a clean during these times at short notice, as these types of cleans often require immediate cleaning.
In areas where the affected area is out of commission, such as roads, each job needs to be done as quickly and effectively as possible to resume regular road service. This does not, however, mean that these types of jobs are not rushed; they must continue to follow all the correct procedures before regular service can be resumed, as Colin explains:
“These types of instances can lead to pressure from those in and around the scene to be cleaned quickly. Our team will always thoroughly clean to ensure a safe and clean environment, no matter how long it takes.”
“The cleaning has got to be done exactly how it’s set out every single time because you’re putting people at risk by not following the correct procedures.”
Whether it’s a crime scene, a road traffic incident, or another emergency situation, our team is prepared to respond 24/7, ensuring a safe and clean environment no matter the circumstances.
Other example situations where our services are required could be the decontamination of a residential building before any new occupants can move in and workspaces to safeguard staff.
One of our first assignments required the clean-up of an office following an incident that involved a diabetic episode, which resulted in a contaminated area. Our team were on hand to respond to the clean-up at the office, following all the correct procedures to ensure workers could return to the office as quickly as possible.
Supporting the team
At Tudor Group, we take great pride in the level of care and attention to detail we bring to our work. This extends to the health and safety of our team. Due to the nature of this type of work, we are committed to supporting our team throughout the process, from pre-assessment to aftercare.
These situations require individuals who can handle them with the utmost professionalism, care, and mental preparedness. Before anyone is put forward for training, pre-assessment is a must, as Colin explains:
“The safety of our staff must come first. If we as a team or business do not feel that the individual is able to carry out these types of cleans, we will not recommend them for the training, nor will anyone be asked to deliver a job they are not comfortable doing.
“Conversely, if any member of our team requires mental support after a clean, we will offer as much internal or external support as required.”
A vital, necessary service
We understand our vital role in providing a wide range of cleaning services where people live, work, and play. Whilst this type of service may involve some not-so-pleasant circumstances, the Tudor Group is committed to ensuring that the highest cleaning standards and protocols are met to safeguard and protect the community.
