We take pride in developing our team, supporting our colleagues’ growth and highlighting their successes.

With this in mind, we’re thrilled to introduce you to George Holt-Doherty, one of the key members of our team at Tudor Group. In this interview, we had the opportunity to delve into George’s journey with the company and gain insights into his role and contributions following his recent promotion to Area Mobile Support Manager.

Can you tell us a little about your career journey and how you came to join the Tudor Group?

I began working as a window cleaner at Tudor Group around 11-12 years ago, and after a period of time, my manager asked if I might be interested in doing specialist cleans. I really enjoyed this type of work, taking on everything from cleaning bird muck off high beams, to high-level cleaning, and deep cleans.

Following some excellent feedback from the client on the great work I had been doing, I was then promoted to supervisor.

Recently, the opportunity arose to become the manager for daily office cleaning and specialist cleaning, and I have been working in this new role for over a month.

What does a typical day look like and how does it compare to your previous role?

A typical day involves me overseeing daily office cleans, for which I am in charge of 17-18 different sites, and managing the specialist cleans.

My role also involves managing a team of cleaners across various contracts within the company, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Since my promotion, my responsibilities have expanded to include managing multiple contracts and teams, which includes managing risk assessments for sites, invoicing, and ensuring sufficient resources for the cleans.

Before my promotion to Area Mobile Support Manager, I worked a lot more on the job carrying out the work. I still enjoy that aspect and am always willing to jump in to support the team where needed. I was in the Midlands, and the job came up in Manchester, and the client needed our support, and I was best placed to get the job done, so I went and carried out the cleaning. The client was very happy with the work and swift response.

What do you find most rewarding about the job?

I enjoy the feedback we receive from the clients. Having started a career in the army, where attention to detail is vital, I ‘ve carried the same approach to focusing on the finer details in this job – it’s a crucial driver for me and something that clients look out for. For example, one of my clients said that since I have taken over, they can see a real difference and like my approach to doing things, I enjoy receiving that kind of feedback.

Receiving positive feedback from management really makes a difference, too. Jamie Hughes, one of the directors in our specialist deep cleaning division, said he was impressed with what I’ve been doing since taking on the new role. Colin Fox, Operations Director at the Tudor Group, said he was impressed with how quickly I have developed my customer skills. These kinds of comments mean a lot; they motivate me.

How do you find having a leadership role with the team?

Moving from the position of working within the team to leading it, I find myself in a unique position. Many of these individuals are not just colleagues, but friends. They understand that my role is to ensure we’re all delivering to the high standards expected at the Tudor Group. I am committed to finding the best ways to keep our team motivated, and my approach is to treat each person as I would want to be treated myself.

How has the Tudor Group supported you in your development?

If there’s something I’m unsure about, there are a lot of people I can ask who are always willing to support me in any way they can.

Colin, my manager, has guided me a lot since my promotion. There are other team members that I can lean on for support, too. If I need advice, I know I’m surrounded by a knowledgeable and experienced team, who have dealt with all types of situations.

Would you recommend a career in Facilities Management or, more specifically, at the Tudor Group?

I never thought I’d reach where I am. Tudor Group saw my potential and fully supported that growth.

My passion for what I do extends to supporting others’ ambitions. The potential for growth within the company is evident, as I recently promoted a team member to a leadership role and am in the process of promoting another to a supervisory position. What’s unique is that these promotions are internal, a testament to the company’s commitment to nurturing talent.

Another nice aspect of the job is that excellent work is rewarded too. When someone has gone above and beyond on a job, we hand out vouchers to those individuals. It puts a smile on their faces and shows their appreciation of how much the Tudor Group values them.

What does the future have in store?

There is the potential to progress within the business, and the Tudor Group is always willing to support that. However, as I have only been doing the job for a little while, I want to ensure I have learned every aspect of this new role. I would like to seek further progression opportunities in the future, but for now, I am happy with where I am.
